The course is a requirement, however you only need to sit a single course. not one for each VCP you attempt. the only exception to this is if you are upgrading your VCP4-DV to VCP5-DV then you need to sit the Whats new course.
if you are currently a VCP5-DV or Cloud you can just sit the exam and you will be certified VCP5-DT
